Shellie's Blog
June 27, 2008
The summer temperature is calling me outside, but the smoke from all the California fires drives me right back inside. It is such a bad year for fires. Please remember the firefighters and all those who have been affected by the fires in your thoughts and prayers. I’m sorry to start this blog on a sad note.
Let’s turn to a brighter topic. It’s almost July and I can’t believe the year is half over! Soon it will be Christmas time and I need to start thinking of gifts to give. Now is the time to begin the stitching projects if we want to get done in time. This is the year I decided to do a big project for me. I haven’t gotten very far on it, which is O.K. We’ve spent a lot of time on the Acorn Needle website, which has been very important for our customers. I really enjoy the quick projects, so I’m going to have to look for a few quick and fun Christmas projects to do at the same time. I learned a long time ago how much better it is for me to have more than one project going at any given time. If I get frustrated or bored with one project, I can work on the other one for a while. When I go back to the first project, I’m refreshed.
Today, I visited a needlepoint shop and came home with another exciting project. I don’t know when I’ll start on it, but it has tons of different stitches and is counted on canvas. I saw a completed one and fell in love with it. Three projects at a time shouldn’t be too bad…right? I need to get on with things. We received a shipment in of new products and I want to get them on the site ASAP, so I’ll stop the blog for now. Happy Stitching! |

Mother’s Day was a nice day. I can’t believe I got my mother into cross stitching. She is a beautiful seamstress and loves to scrapbook. I was shopping with her one day and came upon a shop that had a small section of cross stitch. She saw one she really liked and I helped her get everything together. She finished it and mounted it herself! It looks great. She is almost finished with " Pin Cushions A Plenty II " from Homespun Elegance
On Mother’s Day, we looked at her next project and picked out the prettiest fabric for her tulip sampler. Tulip Quilt Sampler Instead of a white fabric, she has chosen to use 32-count Belfast Cream from Zweigart. We think it will be a bit warmer, but not distract from the stitching. I hope I can convince her to put pictures of her progress on the website so we all can watch and cheer her along. I’m so proud of her! |

I live an hour and a half away from a good needlework store. It is so frustrating. I’m sure I’m not alone, so I decided to start an on-line cross stitch supply store. My husband and I have been working hard on updating www.acornneedle.com Our website has been taking a lot of time and love. We want it to be a great place for people to shop anytime from anywhere.
I’ve also started my own cross stitch project. It is “The Village of Hawk Run Hollow” from Carriage House Samplings. I’ve never done a project this big. I like quick results, so I usually do smaller projects. When I saw this one, I fell in love with it. It is like a bunch of small projects, but all on one piece of fabric. I love samplers and this one is especially appealing with the small town primitive look |
